About The Gospel Today

Our Vision

To see followers of Jesus equipped to live as faithful, biblically grounded disciples in the 21st century—developing biblical literacy, engaging the world through the lens of the gospel, and growing in Christlikeness from the inside out.

Our Mission

The Gospel Today exists to equip and encourage believers by providing biblical teaching, discipleship resources, and gospel-centered perspectives on current events. Through in-depth Bible study, theological reflection, and cultural engagement, we seek to strengthen the faith of disciples, helping them stand firm in a fast-changing world while living out the truth of the gospel in every area of life. We believe lasting transformation happens from the inside out, as the Spirit renews minds and changes hearts through God’s Word.

Why This Matters

Today’s world bombards us with competing voices about who we are, what we should value, and where to find life. In this chaos, the gospel of Jesus Christ provides not just information, but transformation. The gospel addresses our deepest needs—our longings for significance and security—and reorients our entire lives around the person and work of Christ. This is the foundation we stand on, and it changes everything.

What We Provide

In-Depth Bible Studies

Building Biblical Literacy

We’re committed to helping you develop biblical literacy—learning to read Scripture on its own terms, in context, tracing themes through biblical books, and applying God’s Word faithfully to life. More than devotional thoughts, our verse-by-verse studies and commentaries provide accessible, theologically sound teaching that strengthens your understanding of Scripture and equips you to read the Bible with confidence

The Gospel Lens

Cultural Commentary Through a Gospel Worldview

The Gospel Lens examines contemporary issues through the transforming lens of the gospel. From technology to politics, entertainment to ethics, TGL helps you think biblically about the world around you—engaging culture prophetically but humbly, critiquing ideas rather than people, and pointing consistently to Christ as the only sufficient answer to human need.

How We Think About Transformation

At The Gospel Today, we believe transformation happens from the inside out. The Bible consistently teaches that the heart—our deepest longings, core beliefs, and fundamental orientation—is the control center of human life. Jesus said, “Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery…” (Matthew 15:19). Solomon wrote, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).

This is why we emphasize not just what Scripture says we should do, but how the gospel addresses who we are and what we believe at the deepest level. True change happens when the Spirit renews our minds, reorders our desires, and conforms us to Christ’s image. We don’t just need better information or stronger willpower—we need heart transformation that only the gospel can produce.

We call this going “below the waterline”—addressing the beliefs and longings that drive our behavior, not just trying to modify actions through self-effort. Like an iceberg, most of what drives our lives operates beneath conscious awareness. The gospel does its work at this deep level, exposing our false sources of significance and security, revealing our futile independence from God, and calling us to find our deepest needs met in Christ alone.

This isn’t a counseling method—it’s biblical anthropology, the Bible’s own description of how God made us and how He transforms us. Understanding the heart shapes how we approach Scripture, cultural engagement, and discipleship. It’s why we’re committed to teaching that builds biblical literacy, addresses real-life struggles, and points consistently to the sufficiency of Christ.

About Michael Floyd

Michael Floyd is the founder and writer of The Gospel Today. He came to faith in Christ as a college student after years of skepticism and intellectual resistance—a journey from rationalist debater to passionate follower of Jesus that shapes everything he writes. He understands both the intellectual questions skeptics ask and the heart-level transformation the gospel produces.

In 2014, the Lord began teaching Michael about the breadth and depth of the gospel—that it’s far more than “fire insurance,” but the foundation for all of life. This prompted him to begin writing seriously, first completing his book No Other Gospel (2015, the 10th anniversary edition was released in July 2025), then diving into in-depth Scripture study that resulted in commentaries on John, 1 John, Galatians, and Romans.

In 2017, Michael started The Shepherd’s Voice blog as a way to explore and share what he was learning about the gospel. Over eight years, it grew into a full website incorporating resources and teaching. At the end of 2024, prompted to refocus and pray about next steps, Michael suspended The Shepherd’s Voice and launched The Gospel Today—moving from something primarily personal in nature to something primarily for the sake of others.

Michael is passionate about helping believers develop biblical literacy, engage culture through a gospel lens, and understand how transformation happens from the inside out. His own journey—marked by both God’s faithfulness and his own failures—shapes his conviction that the gospel is for sinners, and that Christ’s grace is sufficient for our deepest struggles.

Michael is the author of No Other Gospel, Keys to the Kingdom, Conversations with Jesus, From Blessed to Transformed, and The Modern Corinth, along with verse-by-verse commentaries on several New Testament books.
